Reading a book = almost the best thing ever.
I’ve been an avid reader since childhood. Nothing seemed as exciting to me as cracking open a new-to-me book from the bookmobile (which stopped at my elementary school parking lot every Thursday.) Or, be still my heart, a pile of Scholastic Books that were ordered just for me through my school. My very own books!
I have a regular feature on my sidebar that shows what I’m currently reading and what I’ve just finished reading, because I think you might like to know about that. I love to hear what others are reading; it tells me a lot about that person and, bonus, I just might find something I haven’t heard about and would love to try for myself.
Reading is always an escape for me, unless it is the kind of reading you have to do for classes and homework which is not an escape. At this moment in my life, I really need an escape, so I grabbed some Daniel Silva thriller/espionage books from my local library. That magazine you see under the book is called Secondhand Treasures – all about collecting and vintage and flea markets – and is one of those special editions that cost too much money. What was I thinking? Escape.

I just finished my fifth (eek!) Joe Nesbo book. He is a writer from Norway so his books are translated and the names of his characters are a bit hard to remember. But I really enjoyed the books~hard to put them down AND I couldn’t guess the plot line! So if you enjoy mysteries, see if you can find his books. Enjoy!
Claudia, don’t laugh. I am about half way through “A Princess of Mars” by Edgar Rice Borroughs. For some reason I never got into any of his books when I was a kid. It’s silly, but I am really enjoying the first of the series. Please don’t tell anybody. I am reading it on my iPod. Does that still count?
I rarely crack a book open in the summer – too, too many projects to get done before the first snows fly. So for now, I’m reading the side of a paint can and researching the internet for project info. :)

“Bitterblue” by Kristin Cashore ~~ I’ve also read her other two books, “Fire” and “Graceling”, which I enjoyed very much.
Various magazines, but this one in particular is a recent fave: “Vintage Style: The Makeover Issue”.

A book is waiting for me at my library. After the death of Nora Ephron, I wanted to reread some of her books…So I ordered~ I Remember Nothing.
I love to read and do it year round. I have problems with my eyes now that I’m in my “golden years” so I have to pace myself :(

I am an avid reader, but tend to read articles – tons of them. But I do read books, but tend to read about 6 or 7 at a time, little by little. But just recently, I accidentally came across a book in a thrift store that caught my attention and read 3/4 way through it in one evening – it is called 23 Minutes in Hell by Bill Weise. It is very interesting and would recommend it !
On my nightstand at the moment: Autobiography of Julia Childs. A book on Homesteading. A Purpose Driven Life, the Bible, French Kitchens,Paris in Color, and Maxsons on the Move (a book about my family).
Not sure what that says about the reader except that maybe she doesn’t get enough sleep? ;-)

I wanted to let you know that I am so sorry about Riley and I do know how hard it is to have them sick. I lost two beloved dogs in one year (about four years ago)one to cancer at 11 (a whippet) and one to old age (a 15 year cocker) They gave us so much joy and were just a part of the family.
I am one of those who usually has 2 books going at the same time. One is usually history and the other is usually something light. I am not much of a novel reader, unless it is based on something historical.
I LOVE reading old journals from the 1800’s…that’s my favorite kind of read.

I’m a magazine girl myself…I just love Country Living. Most of my free time is spent stitching, but I read before I fall asleep. Mostly magazines and cookbooks, but I have John Grisham’s A Painted House and Jane Austen’s Emma on my nightstand as well. :) Paulette
Claudia, reading is my favorite past time and I’m afraid I’ve had trouble concentrating during all the house selling shenanigans. So…I am reading a free download on my Kindle called “Beautiful Disaster” a totally fluffy contemporary romance which I rarely read, but it’s where I’m at now. I have many other books waiting for my attention including my last Jack Reacher novel. I like posting my reading choices on my sidebar too.

Just started THE MEASURE OF MY DAYS by Florida Scott-Maxwell. It’s one I want slow down and absorb so bedside it will go. Just finished THE TEA HOUSE ON MULBERRY STREET by Sharon Owens, an Irish writer. I absolutely loved it and will check out my little used bookshop for more. This morning an oldie by Lillian O’Donnell : LOCKOUT ~ A Norah Mulcahaney Mystery. A good rainy day read.

I love, love, love reading, too. Usually I try to stick with one book at a time, but at this moment you caught me reading Gone With the Wind (for the 4th or 5th time); a book about Voodoo and Hoodoo; and Condoleezza Rice’s memoir, No Higher Honor. Eclectic reading to go with my currently scatterbrained mood!
I just borrowed a book from a friend who recently appeared on a segment of Secret Millionaire. It’s called “Love Does”, by Bob Goff and it’s going to be my sole summer read ~ hopefully I can convert the inspiration into action.
Hi Claudia! I just finished reading Louisa May Alcott: The Woman Behind Little Women. It was so good that I had a hard time putting it down. I learned some more about Transcendentalism, the lives of women in Civil War times, and abolitionism. A fascinating read! I love reading your blog everyday too! xo Jennifer
I just finished Crooked Letter Crooked Letter by Tom Franklin. I sometimes have to set a timer when I’m reading or I wouldn’t get anything else done.
I also love to read. I have to have book on hard. I will go nuts if I don’t. I am so glad that people do these blogs asking about books. I am going to look up the books people have mentioned. Now I won’t get ANYTHING done today. But reading is good for you, right! I really feel that people need to read and keep learning.

I am a librarian so I completely understand everything you said about reading. When I was little my dad was in the Navy and we moved a lot. The first thing I did when we moved was find the library. My love for books has just grown and being a librarian is my dream job. I am currently reading an Amish mystery by Linda Castillo called Gone Missing. I’ve read all of Daniel Silva’s books. They are great spy thrillers.

I love spiritual reading and being Im Catholic I love to read about the Saints etc.. Right now I am reading a book called “Hunted Priest” about how the priests in England were literally hunted during the reformation.. Exciting stuff.!

Love to read and usually have a couple of books going. Just completed To Kill A Mockingbird whilst in Africa – yes, somehow I still managed to read a chapter at night while the lions roared and the hippos grunted! Am now loving a book I picked up at Jo-Burg airport – The German Boy by British author Patricia Wastvedt, set in England and Germany before WWII. I always look for books in foreign airports – they have so many one never sees here.
Also just started another of Alexander McCall Smith’s No.1 Ladies Detective Agency Series – Blue Shoes and Happiness. So much fun and as I love Botswana these stories take me back.
OK off to bed now and will read of course before the eyelids start to droop!

I was reading a book about puppies by the Monks of Skete but Joe took it ao I will finish it later. Now I am reading The Tender Bar by J.R. Moehringer, a memoir that was a bestseller and it quite good and well written.
I loved the bookmobile. I can still remember the wonderful feeling I got every week when it came around. I read constantly. At the moment I am rereading The Discovery of Witches, by Deborah Harkness, as the sequel just came out and I needed to refresh my memory.

I’m one of those weirdos who just can’t or doesn’t take the time to read..When I do pick up a book, it has to get me in the first few chapters or it’s history..When I do find a book I enjoy, I don’t put it down..I guess that’s part of the problem..Nothing else gets done…I gor a Kindle for Christmas thinking that might help..I read 3 James Patterson books and haven’t picked it up since..I’m blaming it on summer..I do keep trying..
I am working my way backwards through your posts, and delighted to see that you love to read also.
The local library is my solace, and books my calling….
Thankfully there are so many new books always on the shelves, after all who wants to run out.
