A Driveway Bouquet

August 16, 2021 at 9:13 am by Claudia

We mowed the front lawn yesterday and I weed whacked, as well. With so much way-too-hot and humid weather in the past 10 days, we were behind. We’re still behind; the corral and back forty have to be mowed, as well, but at least the front of the house is looking neater.

In the middle of our driveway was this little bouquet which sprung up from the gravel:

It’s in the middle, so we don’t drive over it. Almost as if it knew the perfect place to be.

So, we’re tired today. Don is running some errands. I’m blogging. And then we’re going to take it easy as we’re driving to Pennsylvania tomorrow; actually, a town right outside Philadelphia, my old stomping grounds. The dollhouse seller and I have communicated and have come up with a plan to do this exchange safely. And the dollhouse will be on the porch, so we won’t have to go inside.

Yikes. A big old dollhouse is coming to the studio! I’ve already cleared a space on the work table. Dove Cottage has been moved to the sewing table where it used to be before Don gave me the worktable as a birthday present. Eventually, I’ll have to figure out where Dove Cottage will live, but we’re not quite there yet.

I’ll share pics of the Beacon Hill with you. It’s painted a rather bright yellow, the porch seems to be on crookedly, so that will have to be fixed, the shutters need to be repositioned, and the rooms are all painted dark colors and not very well painted, at that. I think I’m going to have to do what I did with Hummingbird Cottage – paint it all white, inside and out. That will be a base coat and then I’ll go from there, choosing wallpaper and a color for the outside. We won’t get back until late in the day, but hopefully, I can get some pictures as the sun floods that room in the afternoon.

Anyway…an adventure tomorrow. Bless my husband for being willing to do this. We have to use the Pilot, which I’ve never driven, and I wouldn’t want to do this alone. So my big, tall, strong husband will be at my side and we’ll take lots of quilts to cushion the dollhouse for its journey to our little cottage.

Am I crazy? Yes. But then, you knew that.

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

You’ve found your passion. How can that be crazy?
I’ve started painting again, and wonder why I ever stopped.
Artistic endeavors fuel our passion. Can you imagine how boring life would be without them?

What a rewarding adventure you’ve put together for yourselves. We’ll all enjoy what you share about this adventure. My husband wants to drive to a nearby historic town to pick up food from a new food, so he can do that outside. I’ll be bringing along a picnic lunch since the new truck sells seafood and I’m a plant-based-only eater. We’ll drive past and/or park near several murals painted on buildings on periods spanning a 1939 mural commissioned as part of President Roosevelt’s program to aide artists and towns to more contemporary ones. It’s our Covid-days version of a road trip plus museum visit. Once school starts, we’ll visit murals in our own historic small Texas town, but those aren’t easily accessed from the safety of the car. We’re waiting until walkways and parks are less full. We couldn’t do any of this last year since an injury my husband sustained kept him out of the car and we didn’t have clear information about risks in outdoor settings. Mini-adventures, physically distanced and appropriately masked, await! Good luck on your upcoming one!

We have some weeds growing in the middle of our gravel driveway too. They’re not pretty like yours.

I have been watching too much news over the weekend. I am angry about the Afghanistan situation. I vaguely recall the Mike Pompeo meeting with the Taliban but had no idea the Afghanistan government wasn’t at the table. Idiocy!
It just makes no sense to me. We were so busy watching Trump nonsense (look over here!), we didn’t pay enough attention to what his administration was doing in other areas.

Can’t wait to see the Beacon Hill. Have a safe trip tomorrow.

Biden gave a good speech just now. It’s a no-win situation, but he is doing the right thing and taking responsibility besides.

      Stay safe, Marilyn.

Well, wow, it’s a pretty-big road trip; safe journey; you’ll be fine. Really looking forward to seeing the new doll house. Hearing you say it has a yellow exterior kinda sings to me but I’m probably picturing a softer yellow than what you’re getting. There’s a human house not too far away from us that was recently painted almost a neon-yellow and I don’t know what those people were thinking, as it’s ‘way too yellow as in harsh yellow or clear-lemon-meringue yellow (cringe-worthy yellow!). Of course you’ll make it beautiful, interior and exterior.

      It’s a too intense yellow.

      Thanks, Vicki.

    Have fun
U til covid I was driving from Indiana to my docs in Wv for eye, dentist, Prolia, tests. Although am in my 70’s, I put on music and love it. Daughter and I split the 1000 Miles here when I moved. I usually fly anywhere over one day trip. So used to it. THe kids’ dad told me one Saturday morning when we had lived in the mountains where he was Corps of Engineers and I ran our Hallmark store, “you have to start driving and traveling and getting used to it.” 100 miles for tennis shoes lol
We raised the kids to high school in Ohio…I became a teacher and taught SC and then in my home town NOT
the mountains of WV but a small town near Charleston. I got so used to trips from places to Indy. My cars just go. Glad you have a short trip and will be fun. Family coping with Covid in Indiana. Prayers please.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
