Congestion-Head

October 20, 2021 at 10:12 am by Claudia

The puzzle I’m taking with me to Brooklyn. Perfect, I think, as The Strand is one of my favorite bookstores. I was heartened to see that the New York Puzzle Company has some new New Yorker puzzles for this year. I was worried that I had already completed all of the puzzles I found interesting and they are my favorites to work on.

Good news for the coming winter!

I’m under the weather today. Whether it’s allergies or sinus, I’m not sure, but the sneezing continued for most of the day yesterday and I’m constantly blowing my nose. I slept about 8 hours last night – something that is a rarity these days – so that helps. I ended up taking yesterday off and I’ll do the same today so that I can get this thing out of my system sooner rather than later. Better now than when I have to be on the set!

I finished The Lantern Men  yesterday, mostly because I felt like crap and stayed in my chair reading. I have the latest Elly Griffiths arriving today. It’s in hardback, but the hardback (I admit it, I got it through Amazon) is priced the same as a paperback. And all of you fans know that she has a new one coming out next year, right? Good news!

Don is running errands this morning – I need some soft Puffs because my skin is very sensitive and blowing my nose continuously makes my nose and face red, some cough drops, some Benadryl, that kind of thing. And some sugar-free chocolates, my one and only food indulgence these days.

Okay. I’m going to rest.

Stay safe.

Happy Wednesday.

Sneezing and Taxes

October 19, 2021 at 8:39 am by Claudia

Well. I woke up at 4 am today. I suppose I heard Don get up just before me, but what kept me up and awake after I had visited the bathroom was a tickle in my right nostril that made me sneeze over and over and then remain so stuffed up that I finally had to get up. I still have the tickle 4½ hours later.

I came downstairs and immediately took a shower, thinking the steam might help.

A first. I don’t think I’ve ever taken a shower that early.

Then I made some coffee, of course.

Anyway. I have to follow Don so he can drop off his car. Something, we think, with the transmission, which was rebuilt right before he bought it. So, this shouldn’t be happening, if, it is indeed the transmission. It could be something else, I suppose.

And, to top it all off, for the first time in the over 20 years we have been using our accountant, they didn’t file our taxes in time for the deadline last Friday. What???? I am stunned. We got everything in on time – a full month before they had to file, which is exactly what we have done for over 20 years. Same date, same submission of deductions. I wrote to them three times over the weekend asking why we hadn’t heard anything yet. This morning, I opened my mail to get the message that our taxes haven’t been filed yet because “there were a lot of people who got their info in before you.”  I am not happy.

Car, taxes, trying to deal with paperwork re: the film, and not enough sleep.

But, it’s a beautiful day out there, so there’s that!

I will most likely lay low today. I’ll read some more of The Lantern Men  and scroll through Instagram, looking at all the adorable Blythe dolls. That will make me smile.

Yay Red Sox! What a game!

You know, of course, that I don’t expect or require you to leave comments. But I do register how many there are since I answer nearly every all of them and when the comments drop in number for more than a day or two, I begin to wonder if that drop has anything to do with what I’ve written or not written. I’m only human. So yesterday’s post was simply about one instance of that thought process and my resulting realization. That’s all.

Stay safe.

Happy Tuesday.

One Week Away

October 18, 2021 at 9:58 am by Claudia

Closing up shop, yet beautiful all the same.

Well, today begins the last week I am here in the cottage. A week from today, we drive to NYC – specifically, Brooklyn – to move into my temporary pièd-a-terre. I’m trying to drink in everything about my sweet nest here in the country while, at the same time, making lists, running errands, cleaning the house, renewing my driver’s license, showing Don what he has to do… and watching the Red Sox.

It’s a bit overwhelming, but it will all come together. I’ve done it before, many times.

Today, we drive across the Hudson so that Don can get his shot in the eye. I’m glad this appointment was scheduled for this week while I am still here. He can schedule his next appointment for December, after I’m back.

It’s a beautiful day today; cool and breezy. Lots of leaves to rake, but I will leave that to Don. I don’t have time!

You know I love my Blythe dolls and I tend to post about them on my other IG account. I am careful about how often I post about them here, as I know not everyone is into them. I’ve noticed that I’ve had less comments lately and that can be due to a number of things and is part of the ebb and flow of blogging. But I caught myself wondering if posting about the dolls had a negative impact.

But then, I smacked my forehead and said, “What are you thinking?” I’ve never been a blogger who posted based on what people might or might not like. I’ve never once asked my readers what they would prefer to see on the blog – and I see that a lot with other bloggers and on Instagram accounts. I’m not trying to build a readership. What you see is what you get.

So, I’m going to stop doing that.

Imogen in a sea of red checks.

I’m so in love with that face and the dimple on the chin!

Rest in Peace, Colin Powell. One of his daughters is our friend. She worked with Don in a production of Our Town  several years ago. A good man. A lovely family.

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
