Tuesday Morning

September 3, 2019 at 11:01 am by Claudia

We took a walk early this morning. This is the property of one of my neighbors, which our property borders. If you look at the photo, you see part of a white house, then to the left, another house. Just about an inch of space (on the photo) to the left of that building is our property and our woods.

A beautiful day today – it started out foggy and then the sun came through. Lovely.

I finished The Girl Who Lived Twice  and am now reading a history of that famous bookshop in Paris, Shakespeare and Company. It’s fascinating. Oh, to live in those times when seemingly every artist and writer spent time in Paris. It was the place to be. It’s still the place to be, in my humble opinion.

There’s not much to report on my end. We took it easy yesterday and had a lovely, lazy day with a trip to the grocery store in the afternoon. Now I’ll have to deal with thinking that today is Monday, rather than Tuesday, and on and on for the rest of the week. Do you do that, too?

Another neighbor just posted some pictures on FB of a mama bear and two cubs in her back yard (directly across the street from us.) Last year, I saw an adult black bear walk through the back forty. Just a reminder that we have to be alert. But it’s sure neat to see them!

Maybe some mowing later in the day…definitely a bit of weeding.

Happy Tuesday.

A Beautifully Rainy Holiday

September 2, 2019 at 10:33 am by Claudia

It’s a lovely gray and rainy day around here, perfect for two people who said, “Let’s just hang out at home today.” So far, it’s a slow rain, though we might get thunderstorms tonight. We did manage to sneak in a walk this morning before the skies opened.

Sometimes this kind of day makes me just plain happy. The small vintage lamps are turned on, because it’s a holiday there isn’t as much traffic as usual, the house seems cozy and warm and my nesting needs and love for my home is at maximum fulfillment.

(We celebrated 14 years in this cottage on August 30th. Imagine, two people who rented most of their lives living in a cottage for 14 years!)

All that being said, I know for some people who are facing the wrath of Hurricane Dorian, this feeling of well-being is not the case. I’m thinking of all of you and praying that you remain safe.

On this Labor Day, I always mention the power of labor unions. My husband belongs to three unions and has been a union member since he was 20. My father belonged to a union before he became management. My brother belonged to a union.

We need them more than ever.

I hope you have a lovely holiday today.

It’s still summer, by the way. I’m not saying goodbye to summer until the calendar tells me it’s autumn.

The winner of Barbara’s extra copy of The Overstory  is Melanie of Mel’s Comfy House. Congratulations! Melanie, drop me a line with your mailing address and phone number.

Happy Monday.

September

September 1, 2019 at 9:30 am by Claudia

Phlox in the garden.

I didn’t manage to get everything done that I wanted to yesterday, but that’s because we finished the deductions! Then I had to make copies, turn our documents into pdf form and then send them on to our accountant. My goal was to get it all in by the end of the month – actually, even earlier, but work got in the way. Anyway, goal met. Big check mark.

That kind of thing, since I have no affinity for figures and math, leaves me feeling tired.

But today I will get out there and mow the back forty, wash our sheets, and clean a bit.

Don is working the Farmers Market today. He just left. He loves chatting with everyone he meets, telling them about the vintage camera, and taking portraits. He’s a gregarious guy and people are just drawn to him, camera or no. I’ve seen it over and over again for the past 25 years. He’ll have lots of stories to share at the end of the day.

I hope you’re taking it easy, relaxing, and enjoying this first day of September.

Happy Sunday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
