Entering the Bubble

Like many of you, I am surprised-but-not-surprised that Attorney General Barr shaped his summary of Mueller’s Report to provide cover for That Man. That I am disgusted and disillusioned is not to be denied. But the truth will come out. The Democrat-led House will investigate and their mandate is much broader than Mueller’s was. There are already investigations going on in the SDNY, EDVA, DC, and the NY Attorney General’s Office – and NY will very likely bring down Trump’s business, and indict his children.

I can’t guarantee any of this, of course, but the wheels of justice do work. Except when you have a biased political appointee in the office of Attorney General, of course.

We need to see the entire Mueller Report. If you do anything, demand that of your Representatives and Senators.

Anyway, after my anger and disappointment subsided a bit yesterday, I decided to take a break from the news and Twitter for a few days and climb into my little bubble. I’m locking out the sordidness of the world for some self-care – with the occasional quick check-in.

Today, I’m going to make the drive to Trader Joe’s to buy some flowers. I’m craving them. And I’m going to stop at Michael’s to buy a lighter shade of paint for the stonework on the dollhouse. And then I’m going to read. And listen to music.

Groundhog Sighting, Dollhouse & A Question For You

First groundhog sighting – not Henry, this guy was far too spry for Henry. In fact, I’m not even sure whether he lives on our property. I happened to look out the kitchen window and saw a groundhog on the ramp to the shed. Then he ran around the shed. (There’s another entrance to their home back there.) Then he ran around to the front and, to my surprise, jumped up on our overturned wheelbarrow.

He was on the alert. He did this a couple of times, then he proceeded to follow the chicken wire fence toward the back of the property, stopping several times to stand on his hind legs and scout some more. Eventually, he ran across the back of the property toward my neighbor’s shed. And I know some ground hogs live there, as well.

Did he just wake up from hibernation? Is he looking for his friends? I’m not sure. But it sure was fun to watch him.

I worked a bit on the dollhouse yesterday. My English cottage concept involves stones. So I cut up some egg cartons (used by miniaturists for the texture) and played with paints.

Pretty good, but I think they need to be lighter in color.

And can you imagine how long this will take me to do? I woke up this morning feeling daunted at the very idea.

I also got about 2 hours of sleep last night, so that didn’t help. I went to sleep just fine. I woke up, went to the bathroom, and that was it for the rest of the night. Just dreadful. My sleep has been really off lately. I’m feeling ragged today, so I’m just going to take it easy.

A question for you: Don and I have been tossing around the idea of doing a podcast. Something that we would do every couple of weeks or so, where we chat with each other about the theater, our lives, life at the cottage, music, groundhogs, whatever. We’re sort of intrigued by the idea, but the big question is: Would anyone listen to it?

What are your thoughts? We wouldn’t inundate you with episodes, we might not even keep to a rigid schedule. Don could play a tune on his uke, we could swap stories about our careers and who we’ve worked with, and we’d be funny, to boot.

We’re going to research the whole thing because we haven’t a clue how to do one. But it would be fun for us and maybe fun for you?

Coldish and windy – it was windy all night long. I can hear the wind chimes and the sound of the flapping tarps covering various items on the porch. I, of course, want to get going out in the yard, but as is the case every year, it isn’t time yet. Just raking all the Item 4 (gravel) that is now on the grass instead of the driveway will take days.

By the way, the Boston Fern that I overwintered has done extremely well inside! No one is more surprised than me. In fact, it does a little better inside than out. Aren’t they supposed to prefer shade and lots of humidity? Well, we have a lot of light and very little humidity. The house is winter-heat-dry. Every time I look at it, I shake my head with wonder. I’m glad I decided to bring it inside for the winter. All I’ve been doing, by the way, is keeping the soil moist, and once a week or so, misting it. That’s it. I’ll be happy to transfer it outside, though, as it’s taking up all of the available space on the kitchen table.

I love many things about this pew, but this carved leaf is perhaps my favorite. It’s so lovely and unexpected. I don’t think a day goes by where I don’t hear Don say, “I love  this pew!” He thinks it finishes off the living room and I think he’s right. It will be truly finished off when we get the new sofa and find a rug that we like. But that’s weeks away.

Today, work around the house, maybe some work on the dollhouse, and starting a book that I have to review next month.
