Foggy Morning & Decluttering

August 6, 2021 at 10:00 am by Claudia

Another foggy morning. I love a foggy morning. I took this around 7 am and since then it has become bright and sunny. Yesterday turned out to be surprisingly humid and hot and today looks as if it might be the same. We’re back up to high 80s and low 90s through this next week and then it will cool down a little. I remind myself that it’s August, the month where it was always hot and humid when I was a kid.

I spent the morning yesterday cleaning and sorting through my section of the office/studio. I had to grab some time when Don wasn’t using the space and since he was running errands, I went for it. I reorganized some storage in the pink cabinet, threw out lots of stuff, straightened up the work areas. I moved a lot of my acrylic paints back to the little cart I keep in the corner of the room. All surfaces were cleaned and dusted (except for the shelf with my putz sheep – note to self: do that this week.) It looks much better. I’m in the final phase of the renovation of Dove Cottage, so the paint was no longer needed and all the tools that were sitting out needed to be corralled. Also: lots of paperwork and mail was parked on the desk and that needed to be sorted.

I feel so much better when the space if free of excess clutter!

Because both Don and I share this small space (and it’s jam packed, as you know) we have to make sure we stay in control of clutter. Neither of us functions well when we’re surrounded by a bunch of stuff that’s not in its designated place. I couldn’t get up there for a while because Don was always using the space. I’m glad it’s now clutter-free.

By the way, Andrew Cuomo needs to resign. He’s been terrific throughout the pandemic but he has lost the faith of women, the state legislature, and his constituents. I’m saddened that we are losing him, but unlike Republicans, Democrats take action when charges such as these are proven to be true. And that’s the way it must be.

Stay safe.

Happy Friday.

Stuff

April 6, 2019 at 10:15 am by Claudia

This little corner of the office is jam-packed with stuff. I frequently think I should come up with a different solution but, since our wall space is limited due to our attic-like space, there are only so many places you can hang something. The corner is sort of hidden away, anyway. I’m really the only person that can see it and that’s only when I’m sitting at my desk.

My mini pottery (I’ve run out of shelf space!) lanyards for various shows I’ve worked on and the Paul McCartney concert a few years back, a program from the Broadway production of Claudia  way back when, embroidery by Shanna of our Scout. A bulletin board crammed with ticket stubs, boarding passes, pictures of Little Z and my parents, Don and I at the beach, the cast of Our Town, Jim Parsons and I in my classroom, thank you notes from various cast members, notes given to me on opening night of Anastasia. Don and I marching in NYC right after That Man was elected.

On the floor beneath that space are dollhouse supplies; wood, cardboard, foam board, large rulers, a quilting pressing board – that kind of thing.

When you have a tiny space for your office/creative space, every inch needs to be used!

The weather yesterday was insane. Snow, then sleet, then snow again, then rain. And today it’s going to be 64 degrees! What????

In my head, I’m very motivated – I want to tackle all sorts of chores. In my body, not so much. The weather hasn’t helped! It’s still too wet out there to do anything today, but perhaps I can finally get going tomorrow. I’ve been reading and trying to get into the Ian Rankin book. I like it, but I’m not crazy about it. That could be because I’ve been sporadic about my actual reading time lately, and maybe I just need to carve out a couple of hours and concentrate on the book, so I get a sense of the flow of the story.

More egg cups; this time with a chicks, roosters, chicken, and ducks theme:

Quick question: Janet ( a reader ) has mentioned that she is not getting my replies to her comments lately. Is this happening to anyone else? If it is, I’ll have to find another plugin. Please let me know!

Happy Saturday.

Potpourri on Wednesday

December 19, 2018 at 11:01 am by Claudia

• Don sure is a popular guy. Turns out his haircut is a major hit both here on the blog and on Instagram.

I think he’s stealing my thunder.

Harumph!

He is  awfully cute, though, so I’ll forgive him.

• Do you think this area is sort of a mess? I must admit that I was shocked when I looked at the wall and that end of the desk yesterday. Every lanyard I’ve ever had for the various shows I’ve coached (and the VIP lanyard for the Paul McCartney concert at CitiField); all my mini pottery, which can no longer be contained in that little shelf unit; stacks of paperwork and my filofax; a roll of craft paper for working on minis; a jam-packed bulletin board; another little cubby unit on the floor; and, between the desk and the wall, all sorts of stuff I need for dollhouse construction.

I’m feeling the urge to organize and purge (a wee bit.)

• I’m experimenting with some paper backing behind the sheep on my mantel shelf above the desk. Without it, they blend into the wall. You can see that the wall slants right above the top edge of the paper. This is what we have to deal with upstairs. We have these walls in every room. They’re charming, but also a pain in the tush.

Anyway, it’s a place marker. I’m going to look for some paper that really works there. Wouldn’t it be neat to find some paper that has green hills and trees or something barn related? Or just a series of trees – I’d like that.

• Vintage by Crystal has a blog sale for every holiday. The day of the sale, Crystal and Ben post all the items that are available and if you’re interested, you have to sent them an email right away to reserve your favorite. I can’t tell you how many items I’ve lost out on because I forgot about the sale and didn’t get there right at the start! Last year, I snagged this Santa. In the end, I don’t remember the other items I was hoping to buy because this one ended up being the perfect one for us. Don loves it.

I have another one on the way here from last week’s sale, which found me frantically emailing them 20 minutes after the sale had started because I had been in transit and had just landed at a coffee shop in NYC while waiting for rehearsal to start. I lost out on two creations, but – again – I think the one I ended up buying is the best. Funny how that happens. It should be here today or tomorrow.

Happy Wednesday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
