How are you this fine Saturday morning? Other than my internet connection being sluggish (have to call the cable company) and returning a big old bug to his proper place outdoors, the morning has been fairly quiet. The sun is shining, the garden is thriving, my coffee tastes really good, and though I have more than a few worries at the moment, morning always brings the promise of a new day and that, my friends, is a little miracle.
So long lilacs. You were especially beautiful this year.
Hello, Clematis. You’re awfully exotic looking.
Soon. Maybe in about 3 or 4 days? Which would take us to the first week of June. Like clockwork.
Remember the Weigela turned Flowering Quince?
Yep. That’s fruit. I guess that once the bush bloomed in the Spring every year, I didn’t really take the time to look at it closely again. This year I did, and darn it all if there isn’t fruit developing. Let’s see, I not only thought it was a Weigela, I insisted it was because there were no thorns or fruit.
This year I found thorns.
I found fruit.
I stand corrected.
The rose bushes are developing buds. Oh happy day!
For those of you who might have missed yesterday’s post, I’m giving away two passes to the Country Living Fair in Rhinebeck. Just scroll down for all the information. Or click here. I want to clarify that there will be two winners, who will get one pass each. (I like to spread the love around.)
My friend Heidi, whose shop Hi Ho Home Market closed this year (sob), will have a booth there. She is also giving a presentation!
And, my dear blogging friend Elyse is also presenting on Saturday. She’ll be sharing some crafts from her new book, Seaside Tinkered Treasures.
To read about both Heidi and Elyse, visit this link. Elyse is #2, Heidi is #8.
And don’t forget the other giveaway that’s going on here at MHC. Visit my post, Gardening with Hydrangeas from the Endless Summer® Collection for a chance to win a $100 Visa Gift Card.
Happy Saturday.

Claudia, My lilacs look the same as yours. But I truly enjoyed them after that long winter season. Your garden seems to be waking up too. I hope you and Don are doing well, still venturing into the woods and hiking. Blessings for a great weekend, xoxo,Susie
Claudia says
Me too – they were so pretty this year!
Tana says
Your garden looks beautiful! I was sorry to see my lilacs go too. They looked so gorgeous and then a rainstorm took them out early. My lilac bush is near the front porch and I could smell them every time I walked out the door. At least we still have the green leaves. Have a wonderful weekend you two!
Tana

Things are finally starting to bloom for you! Hoping you have a good weekend. Today I start more packing at Mom’s. I am already worn out and just so ready for this move to be over.

Claudia says
I bet! You’ve been working so hard on the move, Linda. I’ll be so happy for you when all is finished and Mom is moved!

HA! the cable man is coming to see me to today about my sluggish internet!
Claudia says
Oy! There seems to be sluggish internet epidemic!
Pat says
Love seeing everything in your garden.
So this fruit? Its something you can eat? I have lots of flowers right now too… on the green beans, the tomatoes, the cucumbers, and potatoes! They’re all pretty!
Pat
Claudia says
The fruit is apparently inedible when raw, but you can make quince jelly and quince butter from it. I probably won’t do that!
Donnamae says
Yes…this morning was really nice, in this neck of the woods, too! And there are no worries first thing…and that is always welcome. Coffee good….light breezes…graduation party this afternoon. Then it’s the mad dash to get ready for a neighborhood garage sale next weekend! So…are there berries on that bush? Or fruit…you said? Edible? Inquiring minds want to know! ;)
Claudia says
It’s fruit, Donna. Inedible raw (It will end up looking sort of like an apple) but edible if you use it to make quince jelly or quince butter.
Donnamae says
So…will you be making the jelly or butter? I’ve never heard of that before! ;)
Donna@Gardens Eye View says
Wonderful to see the blooms….roses are not even budding here and lilacs just blooming…enjoy the quince.
Claudia says
I will, Donna!
Laura says
I have really enjoyed watching things bloom this year. I noticed today that all of the knockout roses are in full bloom in my neighborhood. A sure sign of summer. xo Laura

This time is so beautiful – green, green, and more green!
Melanie says
Well, it’s now late afternoon here, but hello! I planted flowers in pots all morning…was wonderful. This afternoon was spent puttering around the house. Nothing too strenuous…no AC still. Now that it’s almost 6 PM, the sun is still shining brightly but it’s not so hot. The humidity is low so the breeze with the fans feels wonderful. I need to go make some dinner…it’ll be something simple. I think I’ll make scrambled eggs with a bunch of fresh veggies in them. My lilac bush just stopped blooming, too. It was so short-lived.
Claudia says
Tomorrow, I think we’re going to have to put in the window air conditioners – humidity is on its way! Today? Gorgeous. Perfect.
Don loves to make something breakfasty for dinner. Your dinner sounds wonderful, Melanie!
