Blog Problems?

October 11, 2011 at 12:31 pm by Claudia

Do you think I need to start raking?

Cough. Sneeze. Blow nose. Cough. Sneeze. Blow nose.

And again. And again.

Unfortunately, I have sensitive skin and within… oh, say 5 minutes…of starting to blow my nose frequently, redness occurs. I look terrible. Oh, and my eyes get glassy. I’m looking good here at MHC, just in time for our 13th wedding anniversary, which is tomorrow. If I continue at my current pace, I will barely remember to fling a “Happy Anniversary” in Don’s direction.

Is anyone else having problems with blogs loading slowly? Mine, in particular? At times, my blog takes forever to load. And others? In a second. I can’t figure out the culprit, though I am leaning more and more toward Google Chrome. Chrome is already irritating me because I can’t get Picnik to work in Chrome. Out of the blue last week, I could no longer save a photo to my computer after I’d finished editing it. Many emails back and forth to Google/Blogger/Chrome help and I still have the problem. I uninstalled it. I installed a new version. Still, I get a message that “Flash Shockwave” has crashed. So now I’m using Firefox, which I already had installed, to use Picnik. And this crashing problem? Lots and lots of posts about it not working in Chrome.

Today, as I was noodling about trying to figure out why my blog was loading slowly in Chrome, I tried loading it in Firefox. No problem – fast, easy. So that leads me to wonder about Chrome…

I’ve also heard about a lot of problems leaving comments and one of my readers, Lucille, wrote me today to say she couldn’t leave comments and that sometimes she has a problem opening blogs, including mine.

That’s not good. I suppose it could be due to slow internet connections. I have a high speed connection and Wi-Fi here and I have to think the connection speed isn’t always consistent.

Any thoughts or wisdom to pass on would be greatly appreciated.

Go ahead. I’m a captive audience, sitting here in my flannel pajamas and blowing my nose.

Dollhouse: My First Try at Wallpapering

October 10, 2011 at 5:10 pm by Claudia

This cold has smacked me in the face. I feel just plain yucky and I barely have a voice. I couldn’t do much of anything today, so I stayed in my pajamas and decided to tackle some wallpaper for the dollhouse.

It isn’t easy. In fact, I found it quite difficult. I always do some research and ask some questions of miniaturists because, let’s face it, I know nothing. After all that is done, the best thing for me to to do is just jump in.

I ordered some wallpaper from Itsy Bitsy Mini – they have such lovely designs. My big question for the living room was beadboard or no beadboard? In the end I went with no beadboard.

I wanted to give you a close up of this subtle, pretty pattern.

I think it looks pretty good. It’s not perfect and the perfectionist in me has trouble with that, but hey, I’m learning as I go.

A funny thing has happened lately. I’ll be somewhere thinking about something I need for the house, and I will suddenly realize that what I was thinking of isn’t for the house, but for the dollhouse.  Is this what happens to those of you who have more than one house? Do you get confused sometimes? I guess the dollhouse has become my second house.

You can see that I added trim around the window. And I have to add baseboards and crown molding but I have yet to order them.

Now, I’m exhausted. Some soup and some hot tea for me.

Feet, Fall & Deer

October 9, 2011 at 5:07 pm by Claudia

I call this: “Feet: A Study.”

Dog feet. Table Feet. And, if I had just moved just a fraction of an inch, my foot.

Drat that husband of mine. He gave me his cold. I woke up feeling poorly. Nevertheless, I girded my loins and went to help Heidi in her shop for a few hours. Now I’m home but not feeling quite well enough to tackle the wallpaper for the dollhouse living room. I did wax the newly laid hardwood floor yesterday and it looks pretty spiffy. I also added spindles and a railing to the other staircase.

It’s 80 degrees here today.

A spectacularly beautiful fall day.

Look who visited us the other day. Babies. Two of them. They were very, very close to the house.

They were munching on grass and pokeweed berries.

This little one was watching me as I took these photos from the other side of the kitchen window. And apparently enjoying those pokeweed berries. Can you see those beautiful eyelashes? This is one of the many reasons that I am a vegetarian.

Here’s another:

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
