Shoes, Rain & Uh Oh

July 18, 2022 at 8:42 am by Claudia

It’s raining very lightly at the moment, but we’re supposed to get thunderstorms off and on today. Then, the temps will be over 90 degrees all week long. Happy for the rain, not happy about the high temperatures.

But, as my husband would remind me, stay in the moment and enjoy the rain. The grass, trees and flowers are very happy.

What’s Sophie up to?

She’s showing off her new shoes, of course! (We won’t tell her that she has to share them with her sisters.) Gosh, they are ADORABLE! You can order them in different colors and you can bet I’m going to do just that.

I find myself retreating more and more into the magic of Blythe world and the meditation-like work on the jigsaw puzzle.  And reading, of course.

Wordsworth’s words are often on the tip of my tongue these days: “The world is too much with us.”

We’re currently a little on edge. Last Thursday, Don and some of the artists that are on his label performed at a venue in Woodstock. It was the first time in a long time that Don played in public. It was, according to Don, a magical evening. Everyone had a powerful experience that night.

We talked about masking before he left the house. He wore his mask most of the time, only taking it off to eat dinner outdoors with the rest of the artists and when he performed and emceed the event.  Everyone had to be vaxxed to get in. Two days later, all the artists got a note from one of the musicians saying he had tested positive for Covid – he woke up with a scratchy throat that morning and decided to test. Oh boy.

Most of the other artists didn’t wear a mask.

So now, we’re all sweating it out until we can test tomorrow, which will be five days from the initial exposure. I wasn’t there that night because I was feeling unwell, but I live with one of the musicians, so…

Say some prayers for everyone involved, most of whom are older – like us.

Okay. Have to go.

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

Bunnies and Flowers

July 17, 2022 at 8:59 am by Claudia

I finally grabbed my camera with the telephoto lens and took some pictures of one of our bunnies. There are two of them, but I rarely see them together. This little one loves to eat the grass right by the funky patio. I was just about to go outside this morning when I saw him there. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve stayed in, rather than disturb him.

That darned cute cottontail, plus look at the veins in his ears!

As Don said the other day, “I wish he wasn’t afraid of us. I want to pet him.”

Same.

My favorite day lilies that live on the other side of the house. They’re so big and beautiful. I happened to see that they were in bloom yesterday – late in the day – and ran over there to get a photo.

No rain again. We really need it. Scattered thunderstorms predicted for tomorrow.

I’ll believe it when I see it.

Last night, we finished the first season of a great series from Sweden, “The Truth Will Out.” Excellent on every level. You can see it on Amazon Prime via a subscription to Acorn (99 cents for the first month and then you could cancel.) Or, if you already subscribe to Acorn you’re all set. There are two seasons and I’m sure hoping there will be a third.

Side note: we stayed up way too late because it was so gripping that we had to see the last episode of the first season. Now, I’m really tired.

Nothing else to report. I may do some dolly pics later today. We’ll see how ambitious I feel. And I’m working away at my puzzle, which is very difficult, but so pretty that I’m quite patient with the whole thing.

Stay safe.

Happy Sunday.

Butterflies, Shoes, and a Headband

July 16, 2022 at 8:39 am by Claudia

It’s Butterfly Week here on the blog. Yesterday, almost immediately after I had the thought, “I haven’t seen an eastern swallowtail yet,” one appeared. Very skittish, so it was hard to get a picture. Now I need to see a black swallowtail. Fingers crossed. They do love coneflowers, and let’s face it, there’s a lot to choose from here at the cottage.

These arrived in the mail yesterday:

Sometimes the girls are barefoot because I don’t have enough shoes! So I ordered more from Cora Huang, who lives in Connecticut. I already have two pairs of her Mary Janes in other colors and I love them. And how could I resist bows? Especially on a red shoe (as you know, I love red shoes.) Cora’s work is amazing. I also have a pair of red boots made by Cora.

And just because, I had to put this headband on Katie. It was a late-in-the-day impulse. The headband was made by Teresa, who lives in Spain.

My quiet Saturday morning has disappeared. Someone is cutting wood with a noisy saw.

Ah, well. The sounds of the weekend.

Stay safe.

Happy Saturday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
