The Welcome Mundane on a Saturday

September 15, 2018 at 10:07 am by Claudia

Yesterday was spent doing three loads of laundry, watering plants, pulling weeds, and remaining glued to my laptop as details slowly emerged as to Paul Manafort’s guilty plea. When I saw he was cooperating with Mueller, I almost did a little jig right here in the den!

Even though Don doesn’t like to watch news programming at night or pretty much ever, I persuaded him to watch Rachel with me last night. Oh boy, things are getting exciting for those of us in the resistance! Let’s see what happens in the coming days. If it tries to pardon Manafort, his goose is just about cooked. The same thing if it fires either Rosenstein or Mueller.

It’s like a cornered rat, so who knows what this narcissistic fool will try?

(It = that man.)

Anyway, back to mowing, recycling, and grocery shopping today. Back to the mundane, yet comforting, daily chores.

Three weeks from tomorrow, we leave on our trip. It will be here before we know it! We still have to book our Edinburgh lodgings, but everything else is taken care of, save any day trips we might want to take.

I’ve got Don hooked on The Great British Baking Show. Who would have thought? Rick, Doug and I were chatting about how much we loved it and Don’s interest was piqued. We watched a couple of episodes the other night. Then, when I mentioned that I wanted to watch Rachel, he said “Only if we can watch an episode of The Great British Baking Show  first.”

My work is done.

I hope everyone in the path of the hurricane is safe. We are thinking of you and sending our prayers your way.

Happy Saturday.

Two New Members of the Egg Cup Club

September 14, 2018 at 10:35 am by Claudia

A couple of weeks ago, longtime reader Margaret from Galveston contacted me about a couple of egg cups. She was finally embarking on a kitchen remodel and had two egg cups that she wanted to send to me. Of course! I always welcome new egg cups!

They arrived yesterday.

They’re made by Homer Laughlin, the creators of Fiesta. They’re part of the Harlequin line, which was similar to Fiesta, but more angular.

They are double egg cups, meaning they can be flipped over. The smaller opening holds the egg, most likely hard-boiled. The larger opening holds a soft-boiled egg.

Flipped.

I already had one in turquoise, given to me by reader Linda. I decided that the three cups should be displayed together for more of a punch.

See?

I love them. Thank you, Margaret!

I’m searching for a better lamp shade for the turquoise lamp. I already purchased one that wasn’t right, drat! But I’ll find one. The lampshade being used was from another lamp and was never meant to be anything more than a place marker and here it is, still there, after several years. Sigh.

I’m happy to report that Sam loved the cottage; sniffing, exploring, almost immediately going upstairs to the bedroom, jumping on the bed for a quick test, and then sitting like a good dog on the loveseat between Don and Rick. There’s not a lot of room on that loveseat! Sam kept licking Don’s beard and my face and we love him so.

If he ever has to spend the night, he’ll already be familiar with the cottage and it will be much easier for him.

Our taxes are almost done, so we’ll be able to sign everything before we leave for Paris. That’s a relief!

Happy Friday.

Primary, Flowers & Don

September 13, 2018 at 8:55 am by Claudia

Why do I have the feeling I’ve posted this photo before? In fact, I have that same feeling about both of the pictures today. Sometimes I just don’t have new photos to share with you, so I go back in my photo library to find something current which I think I haven’t used yet. But…it’s a bit of a crap shoot. I’m pretty sure I haven’t used it, but I’m not absolutely sure, and then I say to myself, what the heck? Use it.

Anyway, the flowers down by the mailbox still look like this, so I’m putting it in the post. I love Queen Anne’s Lace and it always shows up down by the road in the late summer.

We have a primary here today for State offices; Governor, Attorney General (so important now as NY State is taking action against Trump,) Representative, etc. If you live in New York State or any other state that has a primary today, get out and VOTE!

Rick and Doug are stopping by this morning with Sam to check out what they need to know about our alarm and watering the plants when we’re away. They leave tomorrow. Sam is coming in to see our house, just in case we ever need to keep him with us for some reason. He can sniff it out and it will seem familiar to him. I love that boy.

I stopped by the place where Don was hanging out with his camera yesterday. He has a whole set-up now and he’s doing well! Anyway, we’d had a little tension that morning (yes, we’re like everyone else, we do have arguments) and I regretted being short with him. So, as I was showering, I decided I needed to stop by and apologize. Which I did.

One thing about Don that makes me fall in love with him all over again is that he is always surprised and delighted when he unexpectedly sees me. A smile lights up his face, he leaps to his feet, and embraces me. It’s no different than it was when we were first dating. I know I’m his favorite person, but in those moments, I really know I am.

How lucky am I? I already know the answer. Very.

Happy Thursday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
