Cleaning and Fluffing

April 17, 2018 at 9:50 am by Claudia

I often find myself marveling at why I don’t do something more often. There are things I just don’t think of very often. Like this:

For some reason, I decided it was time to clean this coffee table and I looked around to see what I had on hand. I found some Pledge furniture oil, so I took everything off the table and went to work. Such a simple thing and it made such a big difference! Why don’t I do it more often? Now, of course, I want to clean every non-painted piece of furniture, including the sideboard and the piano.

I had to amuse myself indoors as it rained quite heavily for most of the day yesterday. And I probably won’t get to do much, if anything, outside today because the ground is really soggy and more rain is expected. So it’s furniture polishing!

Here’s a closeup of the pillow. It’s sort of wonky, isn’t it? But I don’t mind. It is appliquéd and embroidered – by machine, I’m sure. It makes me smile; a little spring garden on the sofa.

That sofa, by the way, is a remnant of my Boston University days. I bought it for $500 – which, considering the fact that I was grossly underpaid at the time – was a lot of money. It’s still a lot of money! But it fit perfectly in the niche created by the bay window in my Cambridge apartment. I’ve considered getting rid of it; the springs are a bit troublesome, but then again, the same thing holds true for the sofa in the den. We really need two new sofas, but as we flop around on these a great deal and do not have a showplace kind of house, they’re fine for now.

Here it is in my old apartment approximately 28 or so years ago.

Heavens, I loved those windows! It was a beautifully sunny apartment.

Don informed me that he now has a rehearsal and filming on Thursday afternoon – something for NBC news. So I won’t be going in on Thursday. Maybe Friday? Maybe Sunday? We’ll have to see.

Two words: Sean Hannity. (I laughed out loud. I might have cackled.)

I leave you with that.

Happy Tuesday.

Impatiently Waiting

April 16, 2018 at 10:07 am by Claudia

When I arose this morning, I saw what looked like snow on the ground (gulp!) but was in reality an icy mix. It rained all night and will rain all day. The birds were out in full force searching for food, taking advantage of the rain-soaked ground.

But it’s gray out there. And sort of dismal.

Temperatures are lower than normal. This is the latest spring I can remember. Everyone is more than ready for warmer temperatures, and not just a day or two here and there, but consistent warmth. We’re getting very impatient, Mother Nature.

Sigh.

I managed to watch Masterpiece, which is airing a new mystery starring one of my favorite actresses, Nicola Walker, and the second half of the Comey interview. Why, tell me why, does ABC feel they have to add music and stock footage? It’s not reality television, it’s news. It took away from the seriousness of the interview. I have a feeling that Rachel’s interview with him on Thursday will be much more satisfying and will have the necessary gravitas.

That being said, there was nothing all that shocking and nothing I didn’t know already. That Spanky behaves like a mobster is crystal clear. And New Yorkers have known about his mob ties for years.

I’m trying to decide when I’m going to spend a day or two with Don this week. Maybe Thursday? I didn’t want to go in today and have to deal with an umbrella while schlepping my rolling suitcase and shoulder bag during the several block walk to the apartment.

Nothing exciting on the docket today – a trip to the grocery store, vacuuming, dusting, swiffering, that sort of thing.

Happy Monday.

Flowers, Pillows & Egg Cups

April 15, 2018 at 10:13 am by Claudia

I wasn’t able to respond to comments until late in the day yesterday and I found that you’d been talking amongst yourselves! I absolutely love that. In fact, I found myself thinking that I should just sit back and let you talk to each other sometimes. Hmmm…

Right on the edge of the woods, here come the daffodils, planted long ago by a previous owner. They are always the first sign of spring. The forsythia hasn’t bloomed yet, the lilac is in bud, I see nary a bud on any of the trees, but this reassures me that, thought late, spring is coming.

It was warmish yesterday and wonderfully sunny, but the wind kicked up last night and it’s much colder today. It’s only going to be in the thirties today. Yikes. Rain later today and all day tomorrow, then off and on all week long.

I ran some errands yesterday and bought a couple of pillows for the sofa in the living room, as the pillows that have been there for the past few months are actually meant for the porch glider. And I’m just about to move them outside.

The new additions are the pillow in the center and the one on the right. I’m going to keep searching for a largish pillow in either yellow, red or aqua to complete the picture. The little red pillow actually belongs in the den.

And, finally, the egg cups I bid on arrived yesterday. They’re quite old and are stamped ‘Germany.’

I couldn’t resist these bluebirds. Aren’t they lovely? They’re now on the shelf in the den.

Happy Sunday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
