Frustrating

February 10, 2017 at 8:35 am by Claudia

A very frustrating day yesterday. Snow, ice, wind and, at the last minute, the cancellation of the part of rehearsal that had brought me into the city. Weather, of course, is unpredictable, but the forecast had been right on the money the day before. I’m sure there were a lot of factors that went into the late decision, but yours truly was very frustrated.

Ah well. I stopped by rehearsal later in the day, said hello to stage management and picked up my copy of the script and my security pass. I’ll be back for Monday’s rehearsal. In the meantime, I have to get moving so I can grab the bus home.

End of day from my window.

Happy Friday.

In the City (In the Snow)

February 9, 2017 at 7:42 am by Claudia

I took a quick shot of the Broadhurst theater yesterday while on my way to the hotel. Pretty cool!

I’m in the city. The first rehearsal starts in a few hours. I came in early, as you know, because of the snow storm that is hitting the east coast. Last night, while watching the weather forecast, I realized that getting back home today would be close to impossible. Buses would be delayed and maybe cancelled, trains would be late and since we’re supposed to get a lot of snow dumped on the city and back home in the country, I didn’t want Don trying to drive to the train station (which is at least a half an hour from our cottage) in the middle of the storm. So I decided to stay one more night. Quite a pricey first rehearsal!

But it’s safer. And that’s the most important thing.

The hotel is very nice and it’s only about six blocks from the rehearsal space. And the bathtub! It’s very deep and perfect for a bath. A heavenly experience!

I’m having trouble uploading photos to the blog, most likely because of the demands on WiFi here at the hotel. It took forever to get the first photo loaded, so I may stop at that.

Hurrah! I managed to get another photo uploaded! This was the view out my hotel window last night. This morning it’s a mass of white, as snow blows everywhere. It’s going to be quite a slog to the rehearsal studios.

And another! Patience is a virtue.

My newest Nancy Drew arrived the other day. I now have 12. I think there are something like 26 books that have cover illustrations by Russell H. Tandy.

Okay. Have to go get ready and grab some breakfast.

Happy Thursday.

A Year

February 8, 2017 at 8:57 am by Claudia

Well. We’re here. It’s been a year today since we said goodbye to our beloved girl.

I’ve known and loved a lot of dogs in my life, loved them deeply. Scout was a rare being; magical, funny, loving, sassy, so intelligent that it was unnerving at times. She looked at you and you felt that an old soul, wise beyond anything you could imagine, was looking deep within you.

We had the gift of her presence in our life for 16 years. She moved across the country with us. She lived in three different houses. She was up for anything, loved adventures, loved people. She was filled with joy.

She gave lessons on how to live life daily. Be in the moment. Feel joy. Love everyone and everything. Don’t hesitate to ask for what you want. Love unconditionally.

I miss her so much.

Our house has been missing her, as well. There’s an emptiness here that underlies all the daily activity.

Oh, she was a beauty, truly the most beautiful dog I’ve ever seen.

I can’t say anything more. It’s too hard. And I’ve said so much about her over the years I’ve been blogging. You knew her well.

I love you Scout. We love you. We miss you every moment of every day. Thank you, sweet girl.

I’m tired today. I didn’t sleep very well. And I have to leave for the city this afternoon because we’re getting a big old winter storm and I need to be at the first day of rehearsal for Anastasia  tomorrow. Since I don’t want to start this job with a call saying I’m stranded in upstate NY, I’ll spend the night at a hotel. (An extravagance for yours truly.)

I finished A Gentleman in Moscow  last night as I read in bed. (That may be part of the reason I couldn’t get to sleep. I couldn’t stop thinking about it.) I didn’t want it to end and this morning I found myself rereading the last few pages. What an extraordinary book. Read it if you can.

Happy Wednesday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
