Rain and More of the Studio

January 10, 2024 at 8:14 am by Claudia

We had lots and lots of rain yesterday and overnight and the sump pump is working overtime. It is very, very windy out there. Generally? It’s a pain in the tush.

I have to watch a filmed run through of Dial M for Murder  this morning and take notes to pass on to the actors.

As for the Christmas tree: I took down all the ornaments on Friday or Saturday (can’t remember now) ahead of the snow storm and stashed the bins in the shed. The tree stayed with just the lights through Monday. Yesterday, we took down the lights and removed the tree. We were ready. We got it on December 7th and it was up over a month. It was very dry toward the end, but it was still going strong. Thank you, lovely Christmas tree.

More pictures of the office/studio.

Lots of instruments are stashed on the left, a perfect plant corner, some of D’s vintage cameras are on the shelf under the blue bench. The stone doves came inside for the winter and they’re on the floor in front of the bench. And my beautiful French cabinet, which stores miniatures.

The project that I’ve ignored for a long while. I’m determined to take this on during these winter months.

My studio partner’s desk.

On the far end of my desk.

This should give you a pretty good sense of the office/studio at this point in time. It’s jam-packed, for sure. When you have two people occupying the same space and they both have lots of STUFF, this is what you get. It works, though I’d love more space in which to move when I’m working. But then again, I’m not up there every day, so it’s just fine!

Okay. Have to get going!

Stay safe.

Happy Wednesday.

Claudia……what pretty space to create in. I love your color sense…..and organization. It appears that you have good natural light. Inspired me to carve out more space to paint…..unfortunately my little laundry room is the warmest and sunniest spot in my house. Maybe I can work some magic. Thanks for sharing your pretty “nest”, much appreciated.

Trust me, you can carve out a pretty space anywhere! I’ve done it in studio apartments!

      Stay safe, Maria.

hope the filmed preview work is a breeze (and leads to more jobs for you).

imagine all that rain has melted and tamped down some of your snow …? hope that’s making it easier for you to get around, take the Christmas tree outside and not turned to ice.

as you know, i live in a small place (just over 500 square feet). stuff is everywhere. and the desk where i paint, draw, work on children’s books and pay bills is in a corner of my living room. i’ve rearranged things there many, many times as it’s one of the first things you see upon entry. all that to say i very much appreciate your studio photos as they have ideas to offer; thanks to you and don for that. :)

our forecast initially called for one to three inches of snow monday into yesterday. a cousin in nebraska said they were to get double that so i looked again (which led to a bigger grocery list). well, we ended up with 11.2 inches of snow! it was and is beautiful! and the best news is that my brother got to go home early on monday and made it safely. :)

stay safe in every way, everyone!

Well – you got a lot of snow! Nothing prettier than new-fallen snow!

      Stay safe, Kathy.

I was loving all the photos (still am!) and can’t wait to see work on the Beacon Hill. BUT, I laughed at the Necco wafers — my least favorite candy and my dad’s favorite! It always made me crazy when he got that for Halloween, but he loved the leftovers. Thanks for the memory!

I loved Neccos. The factory was in Cambridge, not all that far from where I lived, and on certain days, I could smell them making Neccos. Plus, I found the jar first, and then felt I had to fill it with Neccos. The jar is at least a foot tall and it – to me – is priceless.

Your lovely little nooks are their own special vignettes!

It’s a grand doll house, isn’t it; almost intimidating. Do you feel you have enough miniatures in that wonderful cabinet to somewhat already furnish the house?

Loved the tour of your creative space.

I’ve never had Neccos and they’re not sold at the grocery stores here. We do have a candy shop in town. Maybe they sell them. I’ll have to check.

They’re an older/vintage almost candy and not easy to find nowadays. For a while, they weren’t being made because the company changed ownership. The name stands for New England Confectionary Company. They were made in Cambridge MA where I lived for four years.

      Stay safe, Wendy.

Hello, Claudia: Just a quick note . . . haven’t sent one in a while . . . to tell you how much your blog means to me. My husband was in the hospital over the holidays. When I could check my computer, I always headed for your blog first thing. I find it comforting!!! Thought you should know that you mean a lot to people whom you probably never hear from. From your friend you’ve never met, Chris

I love to see people’s creative spaces. Since two of you share the same room, you’ve made such good use of the area. I took over our eldest’s bedroom in the fall of 2009 when he moved to his own apartment to live full time his third year of college. For the first time in my life, was able to store all my crafting stuff in one spot. Now, after 6 months of death cleaning, I swear I could hold a dance in that room. Feels good though now I’m in my 70’s to go through 45 years of craft supplies and realistically figure out what I’ll use in the time I have left.

That dollhouse is adorable. Can’t wait to see what you do with it.

We’re still getting used to snow being on the ground here and preparing for more on Friday. Then over the weekend the deep freeze comes and we’re not supposed to get above zero for a couple of days.

    Take care,
    Kay

I had a brief moment of futile fantasy where I had my very own space and didn’t have to share it.

      Don had one, as well.

      Sigh!

      Stay safe, Kay.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
