Saturday at the Cottage

Around the cottage on a Saturday morning:

The dried limelight hydrangea blossoms are from my garden, the little wooden box is an anniversary gift from Don and was made in Peru (and I see a white Scout hair on it!) Riley’s dish garden is growing and thriving, Don picked up the jade plant at our local farmer’s market, my current reading materials, and of course, Miss Scout.

It’s quite nippy this morning. I have a shawl around my flannel pajama clad body. Oh yes, I broke out the flannels about a week ago and you know that makes me happy. I finally re-shelved all my Shakespeare reference books. I was sick of seeing them in their Trader Joe’s tote bags, huddled in the corner of the bedroom where I dumped them three weeks ago. Now I have to sort out the big white cupboard that’s in the living room, so that I can shelve my script and research materials. That cupboard is long overdue for a toss and purge. I washed the slip cover that lives on the living room sofa – much better. Now I have to wash the one that covers the sofa in the den.

I’m slowly sorting, re-arranging (only a bit) and getting somewhat organized here after having been away for nine weeks. There’s much more to do, of course. In fact, it’s never ending. But I have to do it when I’m in the mood and somehow the cooler weather is helping in that regard.

The colors are spectacular in our neck of the woods. Leaf peepers and pumpkin and apple pickers pour into our area on the weekend. Why? Because we live in a beautiful place.

Happy Saturday.

Flannel pj’s sound like bliss. It is a tad cooler here in the mornings, but was 90 yesterday in the afternoon. Love that Scoutie.

Happy Saturday to you Claudia! It’s a chilly 34 degrees here this morning. I really needed another layer on when I did my morning walk so I just walked a little faster. Love your pictures. I too have been doing a little sorting, cleaning and purging. We do love our things!

It’s hard to believe you were gone for 9 weeks!
Have a wonderful weekend, here’s to flannel pajamas…and robes, which I’m wearing right now :)
So nice to do a bit of organizing now and then.
I find that I do my best “Spring Cleaning” during the cooler, winter months.

    Good Morning, Claudia

I’m still patiently awaiting my turn for Louise Penny’s first book. Have you read any Alice Munro? I’m sure I must have, years ago, but I put a hold on one of her collections of short stories. It shouldn’t have taken her recent win of the Nobel Prize for Literature for me to do so.

Have a lovely weekend. Some sorting will be going on here as well.

These limelight hydrangeas seem to dry really well. I just cut them and put them in the ball jar. No water.

I have had my flannel pjs and sheets on for 2 weeks now. Last night at the football game I had my wool socks and heated coat on. I think Winter is on it’s way. I need to do a spruce up in my office, it seems to be where all my creative brilliant ideas get plopped. I hate it looking messy but it seems I am always up to something. I like to do a major overhaul alone, when kids and hubby are home I just can’t get as much accomplished. I am also in the mood to read a book and stay away from the computer more. I am in love with your dried hydrangeas, that is one flower I can not grow.

It’s a little after noon here and I just now showered and dressed. My morning consisted of computer time, making myself pumpkin pancakes for breakfast (I normally just have yogurt with fruit and nuts mixed in it), cleaning the kitchen, and doing laundry. I am going to run up to the local library book sale now and then come back and organize some cookbooks and scrapbooking stuff in my woman cave/my office. Happy Saturday to you, too!

I’ve been doing a lot of projects this Fall too. Did my bookcases this past week. A two-day job, but not because there was two days work there. Because I stop and read so much. I just get lost reading – for hours. Plus I have over 100 cooking-gardening-homekeeping books which tend to “give me ideas” and that stretches things out too. But I’m glad to say I stopped feeling guilty about “wasting a whole day” on it long ago. Now I really look forward to this “task.” I eat a big breakfast, because I know I won’t stop for lunch. I make a pot of French press coffee, grab my Swiffer, a clean microfiber cloth, the phone and plunk myself down. It’s so much fun I’d buy tickets for it if I had to. Yet it doesn’t cost a dime. What my dad called “No Money Fun.”

PS – those hydrangea blossoms are so pretty, they don’t even look dry. Love the expression on Scout’s face as she gazes up on you too. What a lovey that one is – always make me smile. Please give your little recovered patient a pat for me and have a great weekend.

    Claudia,
I LOVE your hydrangeas. I hope to plant some this next spring. I’m not very good at growing things unless they remind me to feed and water them (like my 5 children), but I have adored them since I was a little girl growing up in Virginia. I am THRILLED to hear that you broke out the flannels. As a charter member of the Flannel Pajama Club I was thinking about getting mine out tonight! Good timing. It’s been cold her in the Pacific Northwest. Down to 20 below one night. Yikes.
    Blessings,

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
