I don’t think I’m going to get around to painting that wall in the kitchen this week. Don’s one-day-earlier arrival is throwing a spanner in the works, plus, to be honest, I don’t want the hassle of moving everything around and besides, I can start in on all of this in January when he’s back in the city for Margaritaville. (That was a long run-on sentence!)
Speaking of Margaritaville, my cousin and her husband were in the audience last night. They drove down to Chicago from their home in Northern Michigan to see it. Hopefully, though I haven’t spoken to him yet, Don met up with them at the Stage Door after the show. Actually, Don and I haven’t ‘spoken’ very much at all as he’s babying his voice this week. We speak in texts. Thank goodness for technology. When I had vocal problems as an actress, I didn’t have that option.
Forgot to show you these Rae Dunn pots that I picked up a few months back. I wasn’t sure what to put in them until I saw little sansevierias at Terrain (they’re marketed for terrariums) that I thought would do nicely. I need to do a little more excess soil removal!
Sunny pictures from the kitchen and living room:
I like color. I like sunny, bright, and welcoming rooms.
I like my house.
Though we could use a lot more storage and a mudroom (still dreaming about that possibility) the truth is, we’re fine. (Oh yes, and a garage!) If we never get those things we’ll be okay. We’ve been okay for the 12 years we’ve lived here, so all indications are that we can handle it indefinitely. That doesn’t stop me from dreaming, however.
I won’t even go into yesterday’s news. I had to talk myself down last night in order to fall asleep.
Happy Thursday.

i am scared about global warming, but (to be honest and unintentionally hypocritical) love seeing your open kitchen window … fresh air is pleasant and so beneficial, especially before having to close up our northern homes for several long winter months.
you have a charming home. i can see why you like it. i like it, too!

Today the window won’t be open! Much colder out there!

Your home is filled with sunshine and it’s one of the things I love about it. My home is a bit too dark (not enough windows) but is OK for now. I dragged out a few little bins of vintage Christmas and need to do so much more but it made me happy even that little bit. Saw the Grands last night so I’m a happy Grandma!! Hugs!
Claudia says
Glad you saw the grands, my friend!

Loving your yellow walls. I mentioned in an earlier comment our window-filled dinning room is yellow and, as the sun moves, the color deepens as the day goes on. Love it! I came home from work last night and made the decision NOT to turn on the teevee. Sat and read in beautiful silence. My husband has been in China for a week so it truly was absolute silence. I don’t know where this country is headed, but we’ll drive ourselves insane if we keep living in outrage mode. Better to focus that outrage by contacting our congresspersons.
Claudia says
I contact them all the time. In fact, so many people are contacting them that you can’t get through.

Sweet, comfy, warm, home. I can see why you guys love the place. I am also fond of the planters at the top of your message. I love them!
Impeachment anyone? I keep hoping. What an effing Jerk!
Anyway, have you watched PBS ” Poldark”? I binged on it last week. I have had a torn retina, which is an emergency and was sent from my eye Dr across the street to have emergent surgery with a laser (ALONE and somehow got myself home alone). Not fun but my Drs are great. Hopefully I will not have another one in the other eye. Evidently if you have one…MOST of the time one gets another.
Love,
Katheryn
Claudia says
Feel better, Katheryn!
I watched the first Poldark many years ago and I liked it. Want to keep that one in my memory.

I love the look of your cottage, Claudia! It reminds me so much of my previous house, set in the hills amidst trees, and constructed shortly after the San Francisco 1908 earthquake. I loved that house, but unfortunately, it wasn’t feasible to raise children there, so we moved to a cookie cutter house when I got pregnant. My late husband loved the house, and I’ve tried hard over the years to remodel the interior and relandscape the exterior to make the house a little more unique. I like the area I live in, it’s a wonderful area to raise children, but I don’t love this house the way I loved the previous one. I continue to evolve the house…as I can afford it.
Claudia says
I’ve done this with other places I’ve lived in. You can make it your own.

I love the light and sunshine in your cottage…I am sitting in my living room now enjoying the same…although it is partly cloudy today the sun keeps coming through to say hi…I am still here!…Your set of three little planters is so cute…I got a nice set of three but they are metal…on clearance recently at a local grocery store…I am going to put succulents in mine…Your Mom and Dad’s snake plant is just amazing…I have a much shorter one that I want to transfer into a bigger pot…maybe it will grow taller if I do…I love seeing your home too and all of the plants you have added make it even more cozy and vintage looking!
Claudia says
Thanks so much, Nancy!

I, too, felt as if I was on a cliff edge yesterday needing to be talked down. I don’t know how much more we can take. The news cycles are beyond belief. It is like I peek at the television in the morning when I turn it on to see what horrific things occurred overnight. Those tweets…. as great as technology is ~ I could surely do without those stupid posts every single day. They must have him in a room with crayons and construction paper and paste to keep him busy, and the next thing they need to do is take that stupid phone away. I can’t believe he continues on and on and nothing seems to happen to him in any way, shape, or form. He suffers no consequences whatsoever. What am I missing??
Claudia says
I feel like I’m going to lose it. Either that or I’m fleeing the country. One of the two.
If everyone else needs to resign because of sexual impropriety – and they should – why is he still in office?
Donnamae says
I’m trying to be in denial of yesterday…it’s not working, btw! That man has no sense of decency, no filters, and obviously, like Chris said…no consequences for him to worry about! That needs to be changed!
On a brighter note…love your windowsills! They are wide enough to support plants….our home doesn’t have that feature…sigh. Cute planters…looks like you have the perfect spot.
Enjoy your day…and your sunshine while you can! ;)
Claudia says
Thanks, Donnamae. I’m in the midst of making more and more calls re the Tax Scam. It never ends, does it?

Dear Claudia,
I’m a recent follower of your wonderful blog and appreciate you giving us a peek into your life and cozy cottage. I rarely leave comments, in fact I’ve been called a “virtual peeper” because I just roam around the Internet “peeping” into all sorts of worlds but never leaving a word. But today, I want to share my reaction to your post for today. The moment I saw the picture of your kitchen, the song “Here Comes the Sun” and a large smile graced my face. Thank you for bringing light into my day!!!
Side note: what is that lovely green stand, next to Stella?
Sincerely,
Deb
Claudia says
Oh, such a lovely comment, Deborah. Thank you!
That stand is an old display piece for a company that marketed chains. Don and I bought it at an auction when we first moved here and added three dowels and now it’s a paper towel holder!

I wrote about the political situation and decided to just delete it.
I don’t want to taint this beautiful post!
it’s full of sunlight and joy and love.
thank you for every daily effort you share with us!
and like Deb above… I’m so glad I found you.
I would visit and never leave comments either. but you have become addictive! lol
now you can’t shut me up. :)

So glad you’re here, Tammy! You can talk as much as you like!

I wrote “my” senator three times this week plus I called and left a message. I begged Sen Lankford not to vote for the tax bill. Then I received a lengthy generated letter telling me why he did, indeed, support the bill. I wrote back telling him he had sold himself to the devil! My sister has had a fair amount of luck visiting with him regarding some Union issues which surprises me.
I do love the sunlight flowing into your home. Your plants are also so sweet! Sunshine, plants, and music keep me hopeful.
Claudia says
I just called his office the other day and again this morning. Even though I’m not his constituent, I figure the more calls the better. After all, his vote impacts us all.
Thanks, Becky.

Claudia delighted to hear you are an original Poldark fan- me too! I dream of buying a cottage on that coastline.
Dreadful though your President is ( we all know it and I know you did not vote for him)the harmony amongst our discordant political representatives in the UK is heartening. There have been lots of references to Love Actually- and I hope more people seeing Trump for the beast he is.
Your cottage as always looks sublime 😊

God Bless the UK for speaking out. I respect that enormously.
It’s a nightmare here, Siobhan. A constant nightmare and getting worse.
