Saying Our Goodbyes

February 8, 2016 at 9:27 am by Claudia

Today will be the day.

We’ve prayed and we’ve watched her decline rapidly. In the past few days, she has had hardly anything to eat.

We’re beside ourselves with grief and we haven’t even taken her to the animal hospital yet.

She’s in a lot of pain and she’s telling us it’s time. I’m home. I’m here. And I couldn’t not be here when we say goodbye. So it’s time.

Please pray for our girl and for us today as we take this journey.

Right Now

February 7, 2016 at 9:34 am by Claudia

2-7 home

Back home.

Scout isn’t doing well.

We know a decision will have to made in the not-too-distant future. All we can do is pray for guidance, because from one minute to the next, our feelings and ‘intuition’ change. So we prayed together last night to know when it’s time. To do what is right for our girl. To do what is humane.

But right now, she’s sleeping in the ‘tunnel.’ She’s beautiful. She’s my daughter. And I’m just going to stay in the moment.

Being in the midst of my work in Hartford, knowing I have to leave again on Monday, certainly has an influence on everything. Today, Don has a singing gig and, thankfully, I’ll be here to watch over Scoutie.  We’ll spend the day together.

I’m overwhelmed by sadness and by too much loss.

But right now, it’s sunny out and I’m with my husband and my little girl.

Right now, all is well.

Happy Sunday.

A Weekend at the Cottage

February 6, 2016 at 9:05 am by Claudia

2-6 afterthesnow

The snow stopped falling by mid-afternoon. It was a heavy, wet mess – pretty – but a mess.

We had our last run-through in the rehearsal room and today, the actors move onstage. This day will be for what is called ‘spacing’ – getting used to the levels on the stage, to trap doors, to movements on and off stage, going through the entire play to adjust to the set. Tomorrow, tech rehearsals will begin and will continue through Wednesday. Thursday will be the first Preview performance.

I don’t need to be there for Spacing or for the first Tech day, so I’m going home for a couple of days and I’ll come back on Monday so that I can check into tech rehearsal on Tuesday to see how the actors are doing and get a sense of the way their voices are working in the space.

I just finished The Kill  by Jane Casey and now I’m all caught up. I started that series with the most recent book, After the Fire, which I reviewed on Just Let Me Finish This Page. I was so taken with Casey’s writing that I did what I often do: I went back and read all of the previous books in the series in order. She’s that good. Now, I’m left waiting for her next book to come out, whenever that will be.

Now, I’m headed back into the Susan Hill Simon Serrailler series, picking up where I left off. The Shadows in the Street  will be accompanying me on my trip home.

Scout’s had a bit of a tough week and, consequently, so has Don. I hope to take some of the responsibility for our girl off of Don’s shoulders while I’m home. Every day we assess our girl’s quality of life. That’s where we are right now. I know you understand.

Okay. Have to get moving. Have to dig the car out. Have to get on the road.

Happy Saturday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
