Three, Four, Shut the Door

May 31, 2024 at 8:04 am by Claudia

34.

That’s all I need to say.

I never watch television during the day, but lately, during the trial, I’ve occasionally tuned into Nicolle Wallace around 4 pm. So I happened to be watching as they got the news that the verdict was in. I called to Don to “get in here!”

Justice served.

Thank you to DA Alvin Bragg, the magnificent prosecutorial team, and the jury.

Wild phlox alongside the path into the woods.

Hey, I mowed the other day! Whoo hoo! My hand was a bit sore afterward, so I took the day off yesterday. I wrapped it in an ace bandage while mowing and was very careful. Since Don’s shoulder is acting up, it was time for me to get back in the mowing game. It was just what I needed, it pulled me out of my worried state of mind and that’s a good thing. More on tap for today.

We’re holding off on the car until we’re emotionally and financially ready to deal with it. We need a little break from worry. Don has two gigs this weekend but they’re relatively close to us, so he’ll use my car.

Outside the kitchen window. You can see the rear of the dollhouse. These wild beauties won’t last much longer, so I’m taking as many photos of them as I can.

But now, the wild roses are blooming, so there are white blossoms everywhere. And that means the catalpa is not far behind.

Stay safe.

Happy Friday.

Life, Lately

May 29, 2024 at 9:39 am by Claudia

It’s been just plain crazy around here over the past few weeks. An ant invasion, poison ivy, my hand injury and now, 1) Don’s shoulder is bothering him and very painful, so I’m doing my best to help him out, 2) after bringing home his car and using it over the weekend for 2 gigs, one of which was many miles away, with no trouble at all, the drive indicator is blinking, indicating trouble with the transmission or problems with the computer, 3) the internet has been out off and on all morning, so I’m going to try to grab some ‘on’ time to post this, 4) in the next week, I have to pay the fee to keep this blog going for one more year, and it’s higher than ever.

We have put out a lot of money for car repairs lately and we don’t have much more money on hand. So, we’re praying and trying to stay positive. But it isn’t always easy. Yesterday I was in a panic mode. Today, I’m calmer.

But I’m definitely feeling overwhelmed.

The clematis blooms, which normally face the street, are showing themselves on the porch, as well. I love that. A little peek-a-boo surprise.

Another Mucha puzzle completed. I worked a lot on it yesterday because I was trying to keep my worry from taking over, so I gave myself a task. If you don’t know French, these are the names for the seasons: winter, spring, summer, and autumn.

No puzzles on tap at the moment.

Mabel on the porch. I wasn’t connecting with her lately and I realized it was because the dress she was wearing didn’t work for her. So I changed the dress and she’s looking sassy again.

I’ve finished the latest Anthony Horowitz and now I’m reading The English Girl  by Daniel Silva, which I suspect I may have already read. We’ll see. If I have, I’ll still finish it, but I’ll also know that I’m all caught up. He has a new book in this series coming out this summer. I really enjoy the Anthony Horowitz mysteries, however, they’re so cleverly conceived that I sometimes feel distanced from the story, if that makes sense. That’s okay. I admire his skill and his ability to juggle a complex plot.

As far as what I have on my hold list at the library; the newest Sarah Perry, Enlightenment, which comes out in June, the newest James Lee Burke, Clete, which also comes out in June, and then the newest Silva, A Death in Cornwall, which will be published in July. I’ve got to pad that list even more by researching upcoming new books by favorite authors. Never want to run out of reading material!

Maybe it’s time to get out the oil paints?

Stay safe.

Happy Wednesday.

Webs and Wildflowers

May 25, 2024 at 8:31 am by Claudia

The secret garden with the addition of the Dame’s rocket/wild phlox that has just sprung up everywhere. I swear, my wish is that this phlox lasted all summer long because the tall splashes of color up in the woods and by the shed and here in the secret garden are so lovely. Plus, we have more this year than ever. But that’s the nature of Mother Nature, isn’t it? Things bloom and fade and something else starts to bloom and on and on until it all fades away as winter arrives. The bridal veil spirea has faded. My other spirea, which needs to be cut back, is about to bloom in a week or so.  (I won’t cut it back until after its bloom.)

I did a fare amount of work outside yesterday with my right hand, so it’s sore today. However, I’m heartened to know that it is getting stronger. I weed whacked, I pruned, I watered all the plants. And, I washed the dishes, which I really haven’t attempted since the sprain occurred. I have a few chores to do today, but I’m going to rest my hand as much as possible. Oh, and I drove! That was much easier than I thought it would be. Good news!

A very teeny-tiny spider on the boxwood. I love to take photos of spiders and their webs. I have to have just the right kind of light or the web won’t show up in the photo. I am fascinated by their intricacy.

I also sprayed the plants with the deer mixture. And yes, that scamp ate the tops of every phlox plant. My experience with this same thing last year tells me they will come back, but I’ll have to keep spraying in the meantime. And it’s going to rain tomorrow, so I’ll have to do the same thing again next week. They never dine on the bee balm. I don’t think they’re interested in anything in the mint family as the catmint is also ignored,

Don’s gig went well – it’s his favorite venue. He has another one this afternoon which is quite far away. I miss him when he’s gone and find I don’t know quite what to do with myself.

Since it’s a holiday weekend, I’m going to take Monday off as most of you will be busy with other things. So, I’ll see you on Wednesday.

Stay safe.

Happy Saturday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
