Sunday Snowfall

February 13, 2022 at 10:20 am by Claudia

I’m a little late posting this morning because Don suddenly decided to cook a big breakfast – an omelet and pancakes. (He cooked the same breakfast  yesterday.) Tomorrow, I insist on going back to my normal oatmeal. I love pancakes but I always feel drowsy after consuming them.

He also make a sugar-free apple pie yesterday. I know you’ve asked for the recipe, but he has yet to give it to me. I’ll keep reminding him.

We woke up to snow this morning and I was shocked. Much of it had melted over the past week. At first, I was disappointed, but I soon realized it was a lovely snowfall, gentle and beautiful. And only about an inch fell, so it’s no big deal. We saw a cardinal and several little birds flying around, as well as a squirrel.

While I was sitting in my chair, I heard – loud and clear – the call of a Carolina Wren. Sure enough, he/she was on the porch railing, singing away. Eventually, he flew up to the upper part of the porch where we had to close off the niche openings several years ago. He poked at one of the boards, as if he was looking for a place for a nest. I was telling him to look at the trailer that was used by the wrens last year! See above photo.

Hearing that call made me very happy.

I just tried to upload a little video of his voice, but I couldn’t do it. I’m not sure why…

We have to run to the store this morning – just a quick stop – and then we’ll be doing our respective ‘things’ the rest of the day.

Time to play with my dolls, I think.

Stay safe.

Happy Sunday.

English Cottage Bedroom

February 12, 2022 at 9:08 am by Claudia

While Don was cleaning out his file drawers up in the studio and dumping stuff in a big trash bag, I was across the room in my half spontaneously working on the bedroom in the English Cottage. I played around with a few things in order to begin dressing the bed. I have two ‘iron’ beds and I’d been using the single bed because this bedroom is so tiny. But, I decided that the double bed would be the better choice. So I switched them out. Then, I put something together that works enough for me.

I’ve since tweaked that dust ruffle so it hangs correctly. The dust ruffle is a handkerchief that was sent to me by Martha, a longtime reader of the blog. It was her dear mother’s. Thank you, Martha. I finally put it to use and I love the way your mom’s hanky graces this house.

The quilt is a patchwork quilt sent to me by Barbara. When I turned it over, I discovered this print which works perfectly in the bedroom. Thank you, Barbara! I have to get pillows and a lamp and some books on the bedside table and I’m not sure if the red chair will stay, but for now, I really like it there.

Can I tell you how much I would like this to be my  bedroom?

The rug was in the modern dollhouse, which I packed up for storage. Thankfully, I quickly realized how perfect it is for the bedroom.

Since I moved the red chair (made by Arlette’s miniatures) into the bedroom, I decided to use this chair that had been in the modern dollhouse in the studio:

The interior so far:

I don’t know about you, and I’m certainly not blowing my own horn, but this is a place I would find utterly charming and want to move into immediately. Preferably, somewhere in the Cotswolds.

I’m really happy about finally getting my miniature mojo back. I’ve accomplished quite a bit this week. Still more to go, but my dump-dollhouse is becoming a swan.

From the archives:

Maeve and Pippa on the piano.

Oh, as for yesterday…we did get out, just to drive to a neighboring town to buy groceries (we were out of practically everything.) I wanted to stop at an antique store there, and we did. It was the mustiest smelling place I’ve ever been in and the “antiques” were not antiques but junk. Ah well. At least we have a full larder and we took a nice drive.

Stay safe,

Happy Saturday.

My Models

February 11, 2022 at 8:36 am by Claudia

It’s going to reach 51 degrees today! What??? And it’s sunny!

Though I know this is only temporary, I think Don and I need to get out of Dodge. Take a little drive. We need to escape.

Finished puzzle:

The sun was shining brightly when I took this, so it’s not the best picture. The World of Charles Dickens. Beautiful illustration!

I finished grouting the last exterior wall on the dollhouse. I’m really, really, really pleased with the way it looks. The added bonus is that it’s inspiring me to get cracking, to finish up this dollhouse. Although they’re never truly finished and I need lots of accessories. (None of my hobbies are inexpensive, unfortunately, so changes happen slowly.) And then…the big one. The Beacon Hill.

I promised a photo of the second outfit that arrived the other day. Miss Mei is today’s model.

The dress is from LenaLittleDress, the socks are from Qiulizio, and the shoes came with Madeleine.

Since Mei had to change out of her pants and top, Maeve got to put them on. These girls share clothes and so far, no tussles!

Pants and top by Qiulizio, boots by Northfield Primitives. As always, Maeve looks a little wary – of what, I’m not sure.

Oh heck, let’s put them together:

In reference to our discussion about different bodies for Blythe: Maeve has the traditional body,  Mei has an Obitsu 11 body. Do you see how Mei is slightly shorter? Her head is tilted a bit, but she’s definitely shorter. I’ll try to take a picture of Maeve, Mei or Pippa, and Livvy – three different bodies – and then you’ll see the differences. Coming soon.

Stay safe.

Happy Friday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
