Vintage Easter

March 24, 2018 at 10:19 am by Claudia

Greetings from the land of congestion and coughing. But, thank goodness, I slept straight through the night last night. I had to sleep propped up on my pillows, but I’m okay with that, believe me. As with all of these things, it just takes time and rest and patience. I’m not so good with the patience, but in the end, I have no choice.

Yesterday – rather, the night before – I notice some electrical problems in the downstairs bathroom that made me nervous. Luckily, our neighbor, who is an electrician and, in fact, did all the electric work in this house when it was flipped, was able to find some time for us. He came over around mid-day and replaced a faulty switch and some outlets and then replaced an outlet in the upstairs bathroom, as well. After running outside and down the stairs to the basement (where the electric panel is) several times and also running up and down the stairs to the upstairs bathroom, I was too exhausted to do much of anything. So, no errands, no groceries, no tax stuff. Well, I started the tax stuff but then I was pulled away to attend to the electrics. I was coughing a lot as well, so I threw in the towel and rested for the remainder of the day.

Friends: don’t worry about me. I will reiterate that I have sinus and/or allergy problems most every day of my life, so when I get a cold, it hits me especially hard. I know what to do. I’m fine. I’m just ready for this to be over.

This came in the mail yesterday:

Another creation, Begging Billie Bunny, from Vintage by Crystal via her Easter blog sale. I can’t resist these old-fashioned and whimsical creations. She does such exquisite work. I don’t know if you remember them but these are the other Vintage by Crystal creations in my collection:

She tends to do holiday blog sales, but she also has an Etsy shop. I wrote the date of the sale on my calendar but I promptly forgot about it. When I saw her post on IG a couple of hours later, I hightailed it to the blog. Luckily, I got in there just in time. She has a lot of fans!

I love her sense of whimsy. As you know, my friends, I’m all about whimsy!

The fabric eggs in the vintage Necco Candy Jar were made by me many years ago.

I’m going to watch coverage of the March for Our Lives today. If you’re marching, bless you! I’m with you in spirit.

Gun Control Now.

Happy Saturday.

A Bit of Green and a Splash of Aqua

March 23, 2018 at 10:52 am by Claudia

A sign of hope and green things emerging from the ground. My early-bird day lilies, always the first to bloom, are edging their way out of the ground. Oh how I long to get out there and clean up the gardens! But I know, after over 16 years of living in the Hudson Valley, that it’s just too darned early. So I must be patient.

And frankly, I’m still too under the weather to actually do  anything out there.

I looked for signs of the daffodils that are on the edge of the woods, but there aren’t any at the moment. For now, leaf mulch must be kept in place to protect the ground and the plants from any sudden freezes.

I have some tax work to do today (filing an extension) and I need to get some groceries, but it’s slow going, as I had a cough-filled night. Thankfully, I slept in, so I’m not feeling too ragged.

It’s sunny out there. Birds are singing. Hopeful signs of spring.

Sadly, I’m not in any shape to march tomorrow and I’m disappointed about that. But I’ll cheer the marchers on and watch MSNBC’s coverage.

I played around with some of my McCoy yesterday. Most of these pieces were scattered throughout the den and I suddenly thought they might make a bigger impact if I placed them on the music cabinet. Since my chair faces this cabinet, I’m enjoying this big splash of aqua. Smile-worthy.

Gosh, I love collecting.

Okay. Have to get a move on, and by ‘move’ I really mean ‘crawl.’

Happy Friday.

Hello, Again

March 22, 2018 at 10:15 am by Claudia

Two things: We had a mass of dry air over the part of the Hudson Valley that is west of the Hudson River, and that dry air managed to keep the snow from falling during yesterday’s nor’easter. Only during the early morning hours of today did we get a smidgen of snow and it isn’t sticking to surfaces and should melt by the end of the day. We dodged a bullet. I know others were not as fortunate. The last two nor’easters have hit areas south and east of us much harder than here.

Second thing – I’m slowly feeling better. Still under the weather, but I can see light at the end of the tunnel. I just have to pace myself and by ‘pace myself’, I mean stay home and take it easy for a few more days.

When last I spoke with you I said I was going to run some errands before the snow came. I drove to Target and Lowe’s and the grocery store to get a few things. It was exhausting, but I needed to do it in case I was snowed in. I was efficiency personified as I swept through those stores, got everything I needed, and drove back home. While at Target, I somehow managed to scoop up a few non-essentials for the cottage.

I got this outdoor rug because, of course, it has a bunny rabbit on it. And I like the design. I also got a little pillow but I haven’t taken a picture of it yet.

And I scooped up this watering can because it’s so pretty.

I had to. I needed some cheering up!

By the way, I wish I had stock in Kleenex. I’m sure going through a lot of it at the moment.

I don’t think I’ll be up to marching on Saturday. I hope some of you are going to march! FYI: MSNBC is covering the Washington DC March for Our Lives all day Saturday.

Okay. Good to be back. But now I’m tired.

Happy Thursday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
